I know a handful of people with some form of narcolepsy and have had disturbing signs that I might be developing my own version of it so I've come across some info that may be relevant as to why you suddenly need to sleep and why dreams then tend to be different from regular dreams. In the cases where someone is forced to sleep (even just dropping) their brain swells up which is what normally happens in REM sleep. Though what's actually going on is a mystery the general thought is that the brain is expelling some wastes during REM sleep because normally this can't happen as the brain is too important and too well protected during wakefulness and will thus only "loosen the barriers" that allow waste removal during certain times of the sleep cycle which causes the brain to swell (IIRC) and when the brain does that while awake it will typically force the person to take a nap (in extreme cases they can actually pass out).
However, dreams will often start right away which makes them easier to remember and seem much more vivid, and at the same time certain parts of the brain haven't had enough time to fall asleep so that there's usually more ability to "think rationally" (even if the dream itself is strange, plus being so tired at the same time does hamper the ability to think as logically as one otherwise could) which also contributes to why they can be remembered better. And because of all of this the dreams can seem more urgent or important than they are.
But now assuming that there really is something paranormal about your dreams...if something wanted to get through and could induce that condition then it makes sense to me that they would. Also, a lot of strange and intense psychic phenomenon is associated with brain injury. A powerful psychic I know was first "triggered" after an electrocution and then while enduring a concussion he had the most amazing waking visions that turned out psychic, it was the stuff that they'd make TV shows and movies about given how vivid they were and what a difference they made to him and others. As he recovered from the concussion the waking visions went away but he's always retained a certain level of psychic ability that by itself is astounding to me (and I'm not easily convinced of such things).
And heck, I was once reading minds while on shrooms (which altered my brain chemistry) though I recall them as talking out loud they all swore I was replying to their thoughts which they found very annoying, and one of those people ran from me who was completely sober and spread that I had a demon inside me that allowed me to read minds.
So if common brain injuries and even chemical alterations can cause intense experiences like that then why not the brain swelling up in a narcoleptic episode?
